I can only watch television in re-runs. I read posts about prime time TV (especially Lost and lately the Grammys) and I wonder how y'all watch anything before 9:00? And after 9:00, how can you stay awake?
Even after Honey Bear is asleep there is very little I want to have on while Shark Boy is in the room. When I was a kid prime time featured such wholesome fare as Happy Days. I also watched Bionic Woman, Starsky and Hutch, and Charlie's Angels, which I suppose had adult themes for the 70's, though compared to now that's almost comical.
I guess everyone Tivos? We watch A LOT of Cartoon Network, Discovey, Animal Planet, and National Geographic (though Nat'l Geo really pissed me off a few nights ago advertising some awful thing at 9 at night when kids might see the ad; I forget what it was but when I see it again they are so getting a letter).
I am a fan of Project Runway and it is one show that I tried to watch each week when it aired last season. This season I'm catching re-runs again. It's pretty tame. Once in a while some cussing but it's pretty well bleeped.
So Thursday night Shark Boy is in bed beside me and Heidi and Tim and the designers are doing their thing. P walks in, looks at the TV for a minute, looks at us, frowns. Afraid Shark will catch the gay. Ha! Not likely based on what I've observed from this boy for the last 5 years.
But here's the hilarious thing. Shark Boy knows his good from his bad fashion, even the couture stuff. He can pick the winner.
Thursday night:
We watched the models on the runway and then the designers came out and lined up. Shark Boy said, "Sweet Pea is out."
"Really?"
"Yeah, she's out. The winner is that black and white one. THAT one, right there (points), uh, is that a boy or a girl?"
"It's a boy. His name is Christian."
"His is the best. He'll win."
And -- he did. And Sweet Pea was out.
Christian's was the best one. (I have a degree from the Fashion Institute which I don't often publicize because later I got a serious academic degree and so that first one makes me feel like an intellectual Twinkie. But I still love fashion and have a bit of an eye for it, even though I'm sporting baby drool epaulets most days.)
And Shark Boy agreed with me that Chris' was also quite excellent.
(It looks much less like a Hefty Lawn and Leaf Bag has been sewn around her shoulders when you see it on the runway. It's couture people!)I guess I need to start watching old Westerns with Shark, just to keep him (and perhaps me!) balanced.
PS. Jillian is fantastic too! I can't wait to see who wins!
Edited to add: I must clarify that it was not THE Fashion Institute, like, in NYC. I attended one of the lesser F.I.s thinking I'd end up in Marketing (I would love to have talent as a designer, but alas...).

6 Fabulous People Comment:
Oh, how I love TV. Let me count thy ways...
My son goes to bed at 7:30 which allows me plenty of Wife Swap, What Not to Wear and LOST viewing. I loves me some good TV.
Your TV crap isn't all bad. I'm hooked on TLC and the discovery channel.
Sad. True. :)
I haven't gotten TIVO yet. I try to get kids to sleep by 8:30pm before LOST comes on. Otherwise I'm taping it.
It sounds like your son is a true fashion guru! Too funny.
I'm a night person. And unfortunately for me I have a son who is a morning person. So it's a constant struggle to force myself into bed by 11:30 - and when Bub gets up at 6, that means that I basically have no ability to think after 8 pm - yet still I can't persuade myself to go to bed.
No way...I got my first degree in fashion design to! I actually was an assitant designer for a few years before I started trading stocks. Just no money in fashion...lots of work, no money:)
TiVo is my friend. And my daughter is still young enough that she is in bed by primetime (not that there is much on). I heart Project Runway!
Between you (fashion degree) and Alli (fighting the frump), I am going to be neurotic when I get dressed if we all get together for dinner again!
