As Time Goes By

...You Get Old.

my birthday pie

I quietly celebrated my 42nd birthday on Sunday. We went to Mass with the boys and then they took me to lunch at the tea room of my favorite Civil War Era mansion, Belle Meade Plantation. I ordered a Mimosa, and Tennessee country ham with eggs and cheese grits, and it was gooood. We went home and everyone took a nap. I took a nap - whoot! When I was a young girl, if you had visited from the future and told me about my 42nd birthday I would not have believed you. ************************************************ My Youthful Clueless Innocent Naive Reaction:

First of all -- I'm Catholic? Whoa, didn't see that coming.

I live in Tennessee? What the...?!?! Why ON EARTH would I be in Tennessee? And if I am - I better finally own a horse! (I do not.)

I have a two year old? But I'm OLD! Why would I still be having babies?

I was happy to have a nap for my birthday? I'm not THAT old!

I ate grits and liked it?

I can't even imagine how I'm going to get from here to there. (spoken forlornly, shoulders sagging)

Wait what? My husband is totally amazing? Oh, well that's something I can work with! Why didn't you say so? Whew. I feel better now.

********************************************* Another thing I would have struggled to grasp is my birthday wishes. I received a few birthday cards in the mail and a couple of phone calls. But Facebook and Twitter and Direct Messages and Google Chat and Text Messages and old fashioned E-Mail "Happy Birthdays" came by the dozens!

Awesome. And unbelievable is it not? (Thanks to all who sent me a Happy Birthday, however it came!)

That fudge pie with peppermint ice cream up there? I'd totally have believed that at any age.

I feel awful that I adore you as much as I do and didn't know it was your birthday!

Happy belated birthday from all of us here at the asylum in Maine.

I can always call ya and sing to ya?

On second thought, I respect you too much as a friend to do that to you.

happy birthday. Every year I look at my birthday celebration and laugh at what a home-body I've become over time. And what I wouldn't give to just sleep my birthday away. ahhh...

Happy belated birthday! Apparently I'm missing out on something by not having been to Belle Meade. I'm a huge fan of a tea room that we've got here in Chattanooga. Sounds like a road trip to me! :-)

I LOVE that you can look at your younger self and realize how much you've grown & changed. And, damn woman! You are a smokin' hawt lady at any age. And, oy vey that ND debacle is getting nasty. Pup's got a cousin that graduates, too. Should be interesting.

Cute post. I love Bellemeade Plantation! I think it has a much better tour and fun things to do than the Hermitage.

Happy belated birthday.
