Today Everything Changed

Twenty years ago today everything changed for me. They handed me a tiny pink bundle and my heart burst in a happy confetti of pink ruffles, baby toes, milk breath, and the feel of her soft little head in the palm of my hand. Twenty is an interesting number actually, as she was 20 days late. Yep - nearly 3 weeks overdue. And I had to be induced. Back then they were very reluctant to induce unless there was a problem. Being nearly 11 freaking months pregnant did not apparently constitute a problem. (Right. I swear she'd still be in there if they hadn't finally induced me.) My first baby is 20.

A's 20th

Gosh, she's still really cute.

Sugarplum's birthday

When that little baby steals your heart away, and you fall so completely in love that you can't watch them or hold them or sniff them enough, it imprints forever. Forevermore, no matter how tall they get or how grown up they look or what they do to make you insane / gray / in constant need of a very stiff drink, that baby is always what they are in your heart. They can't mess that up - thank the Lord they can't erase that, ever. Even 20 years later...

Happy Birthday Sugarplum!

Momma loves you, my baby.

Oh how sweet. It must be almost that time, cuz I nearly cried.
BTW...You don't look even close to old enough to have a 20 year old!

Happy birthday to your "baby!"

Now explain to me how it is that you had a kid when you were four. There is no way you have a 20-year old unless you did.

That child doesn't have a "cute" bone in her body...she is BEAUTIFUL. Breathtakingly beautiful. My oldest is 28, youngest eight and there's one in the middle and I am in constant amazement. Thank you, God. For my kids. And bourbon.

Happy Happy Birthday to SugerPlum. I remember you inviting me to her 6th birthday? Or was it her 5th?

Felicia - She was 5. I can't believe that was 15 years ago!

How absolutely gorgeous she is! And she's 20! I'm glad to have found another Mom with a 20 year old (so I don't feel so alone out here in blog land). All sorts of new experiences to blog about as she becomes a young adult!

Happy Happy Birthday gorgeous!

20 is just around the corner for my twins. I can't believe it. *sigh* It's bittersweet and wonderful...all at once.

Thanks for the preview of what's to come.

Oh and I totally 2nd what Missy said...you don't look ANYWHERE near old enough to have a 20 year old. I just hope I can say that in Feb '10 when the M&M's hit 20!

BTW....LOVE the new blog layout. LOVE IT!

Pop and Ice - I'll email you. I know others of us with older children, including my friend Pamela who has a big gap like me - a grown up daughter and then little ones.

Wheels - Too late for the locking up. And you are right - it's not fair that some people get to look like that.

I also like the new design. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my all time favorite movies.
