I have to put the clothes in the dryer and do one more load tonight, but I keep rocking.
I have to find his brother's uniform belt for tomorrow, but I keep rocking.
I have to call that prescription refill in to the drugstore, but I keep rocking.
I need to call Mom back, but I keep rocking.
I should wash and dry my hair tonight instead of trying to get up early, but I keep rocking.
I'm getting hot, hugging my little space heater, but I keep rocking.

In his quiet room, my baby snuggled against me breathing softly, I keep rocking. He's sound asleep. I could lay him down now. But I keep rocking and try to quiet my mind, still the voice that reminds me one by one of the things that yet need done.
I breathe his scent in and rub my cheek against his hair.
Rocking my baby is what I will do. Just for another minute or two.

Takes me back to when I used to rock. Now they wriggle away if I rock too long!
Laura - That's why I keep rocking- it comes too soon, the time when they don't want that anymore!
My little guy doesn't like to rock or even cuddle very often, but you better believe I take in every second of any hug or snuggle he does offer up. It's like a drug!
I don't blame you. I'd do the same if any of my boyz would still let me!
I understand. My baby LOVES Stereophonics.
I remember that time very fondly. Rocking was as soothing for me as for my babies (now teenagers and more!). I would just keep pushing off with the one toe and the rocking would lull me as well. I wish I could have had 3rd a child with my hubby (#2 and best hubby ever), but it wasn't meant to be.
This is so sweet. I had separate moments like this with my son and my daughter this morning. I could think of a thousand other things I needed to be doing, but I just sat and kept snuggling with them. :)
Exactly! You sit there and rock that baby as long as you want. They grow too quick.
I miss rocking :(
Great post.
Awww... I went to tuck in my 3 year old last night and found his little mouth suckling, like he was still nursing (which was over 2 years ago).
I cried.
And now I want another. SHHHHHH ;)
I've definitely savored my second child much more than my first. More snuggles, less worrying about laundry or phone calls to be made.
It's over too fast.
OK, this is a super, super sweet post and I absolutely loved it, but when I first started reading it, I thought you were, like, RAWKING out, and I was like, "damn, that Amy still has it!!!"
Yep, I thought of the same word, and since I'm probably older than most of your readers--or at least my "baby" is, here's an order:
SAVOR it!
Oh man, you've got me in tears here. My youngest still lets me rock her every once in a while, but my oldest is over it. I'm trying really hard to savor these last few rocking opportunities too!
Oh how I miss the rocking. It goes by so fast.
Awwww, great post!
I'm in the middle of rocking...except my getting notious, the little one loves it.
Beautiful Amy...magnificent and beautiful.
I plan to rock Imp a little bit longer tonight and remember these words and not stress about everything else.
Thank you!
I love this post! Yes the rocking years are far too fleeting, aren't they?
Oh... beautiful! I so miss those days...
Those were wonderful days, although exhausting and difficult. But I loved them. And I miss them.
I know where you are coming from:)
lovely, Amy.
This is nice.
When my kids were babies I loved to sit and rock them because it was the only time I didn't feel guilty about all the other things I should be doing. That was always exactly where I wanted to be.
