A poem I posted one year ago today, reprised...
Sisterhood
On the surface it looks distant from me,
Yet a sizable place inside me has been reserved for this devotion.
Rarely a day has passed in so many long months without at least a glimpse into this space.
A prayer breathed into it.
I have wished on stars and lit candles in cathedrals and whispered to God from mountain tops and sandy beaches.
I have read fighting words and words of gratitude and been awestruck and inspired and scared.
It is not distant from me. Not in the ways that matter.
I am a daughter.
I am a sister.
I am, most important of all, a mother.
And so this brings me close and permits me to share in this grief.
My weighted heart reaches out in sorrow.
R.I.P.
