30 Days


It's September 1st and I have decided to make it a productive month.

I joined In the Trenches of Mommyhood's Sarah and her September Shred group, so today I started my daily cardio and strength training with the 30 Day Shred DVD.

I don't want the Internet people who know me IRL (world's collide!) to go, "You're shredding?!?" and punch me in the face, so let me assure you that even thin people can be out of shape and in need of cardio exercise. So yes, I'm shredding, if not pounds, then at least sloth.

I've added to that a 30-day spiritual makeover called Choosing Beauty, which focuses on an inner makeover.

These two things may appear contradictory. Shredding is about getting your body in shape, and Choosing Beauty is about getting your spiritual life in shape, which in part means being more concerned with inner beauty than physical beauty.

I am doing them together because I'm approaching them both as a matter of health. I need to exercise and be in good shape for my physical health. (I have a whopping XXL size toddler, yo.) I'm not shredding so I can wear a bikini on vacation (shudders) or look like a model.

And I think Choosing Beauty is a good balance with Jillian the Killer because it helps keep all the pressure women feel about their looks in perspective, and encourages you to "embrace true beauty."

And the author is just as tough as Jillian - she starts with the story of giving up make-up for Lent. (Um - that's 40 days with no mascara!)

So, 30 days to a new and improved me. Wish me luck!

(Have you ever Shredded? Day One was fine but I've been told I should be very afraid.)

I started shredding in August and had fabulous intentions and, um, didn't really finish the month. It was killer, though. Ugh!

Haven't heard of the book but am intrigued. Can't wait to read about your thoughts as you read through it.

I love September for starting new things - I'm always "up" because my birthday is this month.

I used to be thin, so I know what you mean about people just not understanding that yes, thin people exercise, too.

Day 1 was fine.. but wow day 2. I'm feeling the pains in places I didn't know I had.

I too am not really hoping to lose major pounds... just tone up my sloth!

Yeah for the September Shred! I am going to have to look into that book. I think it is a great idea to work the two ideas together!

Good luck on your shred. I also would love to hear about the book as you read it. There is no way I could start that book now with PTA moms breathing down my neck when school starts, but it sounds like an interesting experiment. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Best of luck to you! I've been trying to shred some pounds for a while now. It's not going so great. My kids keep needing me and stuff. lol

I will be really interested in hearing about the Shred AND the book. I know a guy who gave up music for Lent once, he'd even make you turn the car radio off if he was riding with you. But makeup? That's true piety!!!
