Never out.
or
Always in.
Classic.
Timeless.
Some pieces you just have to buy when you see them, whether you need them right then or not, because they will always work. Like this find from last year:
I love the sheer top and little cap sleeve. Very sophisticated. Appropriate in nearly every season.
I know what some of you are thinking though.
Aren't they awesome? They are black satin, and you can tie the ribbons several different ways. They are also extremely comfortable. I've had them for probably 7 years and they are standouts. I will never get rid of them.
So, who are they? Manolo? Jimmy Choo? Stuart Weitzman?
They are Nine West. Under $100. FTW!
(It means "for the win!" The things I learn on Twitter. Astounding.)
What are your favorite classic pieces?
This post sponsored by a night out with my husband. Thank you Mr. P!

That is a gorgeous black dress. I love the sheer part, as well. Just the bit of a tease. I won't say what those shoes are. But you know.
Gorgeous dress and shoes! Classics... you totally rock that outfit, shoes and all! If I was your kids I'd be afraid of that pointy tip kicking my tush! I have nothing that nice just a few timeless sweaters I love.
*swoon* at those purdy purdy shoes...
You are right...the whole thing works.

If you see me standing at your door in a few weeks with my hand out it's because we're heading to NYC for a long weekend and i need that stinkin' dress WITH THE SHOES.
Just so you know, i have now saved that pic, and will be trying to duplicate that outfit. Thanks Amy, because you know, i have THAT KIND OF TIME to spare.
Pop and Ice - I know!
Frau - I actually don't have a timeless sweater, but it seems like a really good idea. Maybe I'll look for a "keeper" Fair Isle this year.
Sheri - heh. This is a great NYC look. It would also be perfect in Paris! Here is another good NYC look - http://www.milkbreathandmargaritas.com/2009/04/new-york-city-im-ready.html
It's amazing how you can have 50 Little Black Dresses and they can all be so very different!
Love it!
Also I want some of your skinny to rub off on moi. Sigh...
You look fabulous and hurray to Mr. P for taking you out!
p.s. I had no idea what FTW meant.
Absolutely gorgeous, Amy! I love Nine West shoes. I am still mourning a pair I bought in college that the strap broke on about 4 years later. I wish I had had them repaired! They were the cutest little black peep-toe wedge you ever saw.
Of course, Nine West is about the nicest shoe brand I buy. I'm a cheapskate.
Hope you had a lovely night out. Again, you look so lovely! The dress is great for you.
Wow! That whole outfit is insanely hot and gorgeous. Definitely two winners!! I might have to do a post like this with my favorite classic pieces. They aren't worn often, but even after 10 years they are just right when called back into action. :)
I particularly love the little belted empire waist-- unexpected and delightful. ;-)
LOVE the dress and shoes! Nine West cracks me up and they don't get the justice they deserve! I have a pair of boots from 1992- flat boots- that I often gets comments on, even last week. Nine West, Vintage 1992- shoulders back, head held high. LOVE them! LOVE yours!

Jamie - I've been seeing FTW on Twitter and I finally broke down and asked. It's important to understand these things, you know.
Vandy Wife - Thank you so much! And I'm a big shoe repairer myself - I have them shined and the heels recapped - on all my good ones. There is one pair of nude strappy shoes they couldn't fix and I still miss those shoes.
Amy - You should! I love to see how people work classics and also vintage.
Liza - So true! Nine West does a really great copy cat job on the Big Designers.
Dude, you're hawt. Period.
Gorgeous dress & shoes. Go get 'em!
Love, Love, Love the dress. Such a classic--I love dresses that are seasonless.
Shoes---awesome!! More awesome they are 7 years old!!
To answer the question:
I have the classic stained shirts. The classic ratty jeans. And the classic wore out bras and holey underwear.
Love you dress and super-duper love your shoes!
I own no black dress. Actually, I own no dress.
Stylin'!
FTW! Yeah. It was totally bugging me so I had to ask the Almighty Twitter.
That dress is serious fabulousness!
sigh. someday I'm going to get out of grad school and get a job that allows me to buy clothes as fabulous as these.
