I do not remember what we are laughing at, possibly the name of my blog which she felt pretty much sums it up. (I'm bending akwardly because there is no chair beside her and it's loud with eleventy million people in line behind you. Also, because I'm just often akward.)
I was very excited to get my cookbook when it came out, and as I flipped through I found two surprises right away.
First there was this Pineapple Upside-Down Cake made in an iron skillet, a recipe I had just posted myself. It looks just like mine!
Then I found this Chocolate Sheet Cake which I had also recently posted.
What are the chances of that, seriously?
I gave her a copy of my Great Aunt Helen's Poor Man's Cake recipe, because anyone who likes heirloom recipes, and/or recipes with a good story, should know about this cake.
The Pioneer Woman Cooks is a beautiful book. The colors, the design, the feel of the paper - it's just gorgeous. Here is what I've made so far:
The Blackberry Cobbler (ZOMG IT'S AWESOME), Chicken Fried Steak, Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Cheese Grits, Flat Apple Pie.
(I'm never allowed to make the chicken fried steak again. My husband pointed out that he's not a cowboy. He won't be out roping anything to work that off.)
In a bizarre coincidence, my boys have been watching bull riding on television and loving it. I think Shark Boy shows early promise.
heh.

Looks like you had fun! Those deserts all look yummy!
Looks like you're flirting with her you little minx.
Love to collect cookbooks but rarely use them I always seem to get my recipes from other people. Looks like a good one.
As far as bending awkwardly goes you've managed to pull it off rather well.
It looks like you had a great time! I probably would have embarrassed myself - it's a talent.
xoxox
It was fun, wasn't it? She is one gracious lady.
Oh and that T-SHIRT! Love it.
Love the picture of ya'll talking. In my candid pic I have my hand on my hip and look like a dork so I'm posting the posed cheese and grin pic.
I bet she loves your cake recipe!!!
mudmama - it's all scrumptious!
rubbish - well of course Im flirting - it's PIONEER WOMAN.
Frau - Her cookbook is unusual. It's like your best friend made a copy for you of all her best recipes. You should check it out!
mo - Thanks?
Vodka - It would have been easy to do, because it was hot, loud, and you feel really rushed. I just lucked out.
Jamie - The tee shirt is so pretty!! It was fun to have dinner with everyone too.
So fun!! She was lovely to everyone in Kansas City, too. I’m starting to think she’s just a lovely person!! :)
With all due respect to her, I have thought that many, many people I know cook the same foods that are in her cookbook. Branding and marketing....
I've wondered if the book was worth getting - it isn't really my type of cooking but it sounds yummy so I might pick it up.
I was originally a little bummed that I hadn't gotten a ticket but with the weather and the cold I caught it was just as well.
Michele - It's true that it is down home cooking with classic recipes. But she does put her spin on them, and it's also a story book - the photos are gorgeous and the little stories are fun to read. I'm a fan!
I glad you had a good time!
Awe, it's like you guys could practically be sisters!
Rima - We are like sisters now! No one bonds faster than mommy bloggers.
I'm sure she'll be commenting regularly. (har)
OK...very cool. Did she come to Chicago? Probably not...it's too dang cold here:(
Right on! Very kool.
Looks like you are having so much fun in the photo! I never told you that I tried your raisin cake recipe. It was a big hit--definitely PW-worthy : )
