Treasures: Blogged

Great Grandma Martha's Quilt

I've been considering writing about some items that hold special meaning for me. Maybe it is a mid-life impulse to catalog mementos that carry emotional weight. Perhaps, I simply want to say how I feel about my father's grandmother's quilt, about my mother's ring, about the Christmas ornament my daughter made for me when she was four that I so desperately fear losing I don't hang it on the tree most years. (I didn't say this was a rational impulse.)

While it's true that moth and rust destroy and you can't take it with you anyway, we are sensory beings who are transported by smells to childhood kitchens and reminded by songs of first loves. We hold gently in our hands certain items - a book, a ragged stuffed animal, a chipped tea cup, a scribbled crayon artwork - that contain within them a part of our story.

I'm going to start posting about a treasure once a month. I've been wondering if it would work as a monthly link carnival - we all have treasures we'd like to tell about right?

Does anyone want to do a monthly show-n-tell?

And also, I'm up over at Blissfully Domestic with a post about love languages. Do you know yours?

I love the way you describe us as "sensory beings who are transported by smells to childhood kitchens and reminded by songs of first loves." That's me all right. I'm up for a monthly show-n-tell.

Amy fabulous idea! :) I just started a weekly carnival at my blog last week doing the same thing, would you like to join along? It is called Picture My Memories. I put up the link every Friday night. You can read more about it here...

You can link up any post you have written during the week, it doesn't have to be on Friday and I leave the link up all weekend for people wanting to do it then.

I think it's a wonderful idea. It really is interesting to read about other's treasures. It can say so much about someone's personality in the different ways they view keepsakes!
